Client Story: September 2022

Ashlee and Robert Griffin live in Schuykill County with their mother, Heather. The Griffins have been working with the Home Service Program for the past 13 years – since Ashlee and Robert were small children!

During this time, they have been served by two Elks Nurses, and are currently receiving support from Roxann D’Amato, Unit 2 Nurse. Roxann has helped Ashlee, Robert, and Heather with gaining a better understanding of how to navigate the care system and has provided them with moral support, and serves as a friend to lean on when things get overwhelming. Another important aid Roxann provides is encouragement and a sympathetic ear for Heather when she is feeling overwhelmed and offers suggestions for self-care so that she is able to remain healthy and rested for herself and for her children.  As a result of these efforts, the Griffins are now less stressed and more familiar with methods for better independent living.

Ashlee, now 16 years old, is receiving assistance for the management of her Autism, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD), Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety, and Akathisia.

Robert, now 14 years old, works with Nurse Roxann to maintain care for his Down’s Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, Throat Hypotonia, Ketonemia, Intussusception, Gastroparesis, and GT.

An email received from Heather:

To Whom it may concern,

My name is Heather Griffin. My children have been clients of the Elks Home Service program for quite a few years. This service has been a blessing to me because I have had 2 amazing nurses throughout that time. They have always been there to help with whatever I needed and have provided me with so much information and support. Anyone would be lucky to be a part of this program.

I have 3 children and 2 of them have special needs. My son is 12 and has down syndrome and many other medical issues. My daughter is 14 and has autism and anxiety issues. My 3rd child is 17 and has no known issues.

Anytime I needed Roxanne, she was there. Not only a good nurse, but a friend to lend an ear when I had concerns with my children. She has been such an asset to my family that I hope to never lose her. This program is amazing and I am so thankful for everyone involved. I am also submitting my childrens pictures along with this letter. You have my permission to use them as needed.

Thank You so much,

Heather Griffin, Ashlee Griffin and Robert Griffin
