Riley is a five-year-old boy who was born with a rare genetic syndrome that resulted in hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, and a vision impairment, among others. He lives in Honesdale, PA with his parents and his baby sister. The family has been receiving Elks Home Services since Riley was one year old.
Riley’s Elks Nurse, Tanya Frable has helped the family receive funding for diapers. She attends meetings with his parents at the Medical Day Care that Riley attends to help him receive the best education possible.
Riley’s mother, Alison serves as a member of our Client Advisory Council. Last May, in partnership with Elks Nurse and community agencies, she helped organize a Complex Medical Needs Expo to connect parents of children with special needs with the resources available to help them.
Here are some portions of a letter written by Riley’s mom, Alison:
“Booker T. Washington once said, “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” Such advice can be so difficult to follow in this day and age as we run through life at a break necking pace, keeping up with the latest trends, and often forgetting there is more in this world than just ourselves. In this day and age, it is refreshing to say that PA Elks Home Service has clearly not forgotten this mantra. All the assistance and information we have received is worth its weight is gold. It will help Riley to continue to have his best life possible!
Tanya continues to make visits to check on Riley and see how he is doing and to see if there is anything we need. She has gone above and beyond to ensure that I do not have to hesitate to ask any questions, voice any concerns, or see if there is something that PA Elks can assist me with. They have proven to be a wonderful resource and very beneficial to our lives. PA Elks Home Service is not just a service. It is a community of people who clearly love their job and are happy to help others. This is reflected each time they visit Riley as I can see they truly love and care about his needs and well-being. It is a nurturing environment with the best people this world has to offer. Riley’s life continues to be enriched by their advocating, gratitude, and generosity and I will be forever grateful to all of whom are involved.”
